At SouthEast Development Association,
we are working to create a sustainable future by reinvesting in the
small scale housing stock in urban areas. Through responsible
restoration and renovation, our mission is to acquire and manage
residential, commercial and light industrial real estate on Chicago's
South East side.
We
plan to retrofit these buildings with building envelope improvements in
Insulation, and weatherization, ground activation for innovative
storm water management, and green scape for heat island dispersion.
Wherever possible, we endeavor to reclaim and reuse building materials
through creative architectural design.
At
the very core of our approach is our commitment to community. Most
recently SouthEast Development has funded and sent our Managing Partners
to support neighborhood garden and mural projects, helped to steer the
Peace and Progress committee for the 7th Ward, and worked with the
Chicago Park District, and the Alliance for the Great Lakes to maintain
the Rainbow Beach Dunes in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood.
Our
first project is the historic 3 story building at 7412 S. South Shore
Dr. The three year plan is to incorporate on-demand water heating,
permeable hard scapes and rain water storage, Solar power for grounds
and accent lighting, and green/cool roof retrofit with wind turbines and
lightning arrestors.
Future
involvement in the Chicago Lakeside project should prove beneficial to
everyone. With so much experience in technology and building design and
management, SEDA is looking to become a vital partner not only for
McCaffery Interests, but also the communities that make up the 7th ward
and the larger population of Chicago.
Our
hope is to become a case study for everyone who hopes to leverage these
technologies and retrofit older properties so that we can all enjoy a
cleaner and safer environment, and some pretty cool buildings too!
